Dear clients,

The German missions in Canada are carefully monitoring the situation surrounding the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We have proactively implemented measures and developed plans to prioritize the health and well-being of our team and our customers and will therefore discontinue non-vital consular services at the German Consulate General in Toronto effective March 23, 2020 until April 19, 2020.

These restrictions apply in principle to all consular services (including the application for passports and visas, the processing of general consular matters such as signature certifications and legalizations as well as civil status matters, etc.). Please check on our website whether your specific consular matter can be transmitted by mail without any personal attendance.

All appointments already arranged for during this period will be cancelled until further notice. In accordance with the further development of the situation, the diplomatic missions and consular posts reserve the right to continue to implement this arrangement beyond the above mentioned dates.

Exceptions remain for emergencies such as the issue of so-called “travel documents as passport replacement”, which can be issued in the event of loss of passport for proven return trips to Germany, provided the planned trip falls within the above-mentioned period. If you have other requests that cannot be postponed, please contact us by e-mail ( stating your place of residence in order to clarify whether a special date can be arranged. Please note that due to current restrictions it is not possible to access the German Consulate General Toronto without a confirmed emergency appointment.

The offices of the honorary consuls are closed. In the event of an emergency in the official districts of the honorary consuls, please also contact the above-mentioned email address so that  we may coordinate accordingly.

We ask for your understanding of these measures and call on your solidarity in these unprecedented times.

With kind regards,

Consulate General of Germany Toronto
