Return Continue
Dear customers and applicants,
the German Consulate General in Boston is happy to offer you personal consular services; however, walk-ins are not allowed, in-person-attendance is by appointment only.
I. Appointments for selected consular services - only for matters listed below:
Certification of your signature, if required by an authority in Germany, i.e. in matters relating to:
- sale/purchase of real estate (i.e. declaration of consent after a contract has been signed or power of attorney)
- commercial matters (trade registry) or
- inheritance matters (renouncement of inheritance)
and in matters where attestation by a US notary public is not accepted / was refused by the requesting German authority.
Before booking an appointment please email relevant documentation (e.g. form on which your signature is to be attested) to konsulat@bost.diplo.de for preliminary screening. Furthermore, please read the relevant information provided on our website (links below) and make sure to come prepared and with the required documentation! Thank you. We will not be able to assist you without it - and you would have to book a new appointment.
If you require certification of your signature to apply for a police certificate / certificate of good conduct, please contact a US Notary Public.
II. Citizenship matters
IMPORTANT: Between July 21st to August 15th no applications for citizenship can be submitted or reviewed at our Consulate General. Please do not book any appointments in this category during this period!
You may book an appointment for citizenship matters or certification of copies in general. In this case only 1 appointment per family is needed. Please note that you always do have the option to send citizenship applications via US mail according to the instructions below.
III. ALL other legal and consular services not listed above
Other consular matters such as registration of birth, declaration of name, citizenship applications etc. do not require personal attendance and can be submitted via postal services to authorities in Germany. Please refer to our website to read up on specific consular services, processing, application forms, necessary documents and general information.
Applications need to submitted by regular post, not by email. Make sure to enclose one (1) complete set of certified/notarized copies of all relevant documentation as well as the application form(s), which you can find on our website. (N.B.: A certified/notarized copy is a copy of the original official document where an original stamp and signature needs to be placed on the copy by an authorized notary public stating that the document is a true copy of the original.)
In order to save you time and effort, we recommend that birth, marriage registration and name declaration files be sent directly to the German registrar's office (Standesamt). Details are provided on our website.
Sincerely yours,
Legal & Consular Section, Consulate General Boston
