Passport/German ID Card (name declaration)

The consular district of the German Embassy Canberra is limited to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

The German Embassy Canberra is the German passport and ID card authority for German citizens with domicile/habitual residence in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

The Embassy is allowed to process applications made by German citizens residing outside the ACT (e.g. in NSW or VIC). In these cases, the issuing of a German passport/ID card requires the formal authorisation of the competent German passport office/authority at the applicant's usual place of residence (e.g. the German Consulate General in Sydney in case of domicile/habitual residence in Australia outside of the ACT, local town/county office in Germany if the applicant is still registered there etc.). The Embassy will contact the appropriate passport office/authority after the application has been submitted and examined to obtain a formal authorisation to issue the document. For the processing of such applications an additional fee on top of the regular fees is charged in accordance with the applicable regulations (PassV, PAuswGebV):

additional fee for a passport application by an applicant residing outside of the Embassy's consular district (residence in Germany or in another consular district):
applicant under 24 years old: EUR 37,50
applicant 24 years and older: EUR 60,00

additional fee for an application for a German ID Card by an applicant residing outside of the Embassy's consular district (residence in Germany or in another consular district):
applicant under 24 years old: EUR 26,00
applicant 24 years and older: EUR 26,00
