Legalisations (signature certifications, copy certifications etc.)

Welcome to the legalisation section of the German Embassy!

On the following pages you can book an appointment for a legalisation or certification (“Beglaubigung”).

Please have a look at our homepage before booking an appointment to make sure you have read the relevant information regarding your matter and our procedures.

We are now able to offer our services at the main building of the Embassy again:

Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany
23 Belgrave Square/Chesham Place

NB: The appointment system does not support input via Safari browser or mobile phones.

Please do NOT book an appointment in the following cases:

-          You need to have a certificate of existence certified (please have a look at our homepage – it may be that a certification is not required for you in 2020!)

-          Commercial register matters (Handelsregisterangelegenheiten)

-          Signature certifications on powers of attorney

-          Submitting a formal obligation (Verpflichtungserklärung)

In the aforementioned cases, please contact us at:

If you wish to book an appointment for a certification with one of our honorary consuls in the UK, please do not use this booking system. Here you find our honorary consuls’ contact details:

Please note that you will be required to wear a MASK or other suitable cloth face covering when entering the building. (Please note that only masks without valves are allowed.)

One appointment per person!

If your matter requires the presence of two people, however (if two signatures have to be certified on the same document e.g.) you may exceptionally use one appointment slot. Naturally, minors may be accompanied by an adult.

If more than two people would like to attend for the same matter (e.g. for naturalisation applications or renouncements of an inheritance of several family members), several appointments need to be booked (one appointment for two persons, two appointments for four persons max. etc.)

Please note that applications in citizenship matters can usually be submitted by a single person on behalf of the others. The personal presence of every applicant is only mandatory if the signatures of all applicants or – in case of minors under the age of 16 their parents - have to be certified.
