Application for a Passport/ID card

***Depending on the booking level, there is a possibility that there are no appointments available. New appointments become available regularly. Email requests for appointments will be deleted.***

Important information for your appointment to apply for a German passport or ID card:

1. Passports/identity cards can only be applied for with appointment. Appointments may only be booked online.
Please book one appointment per person, i.e. individual appointsments per family member. Depending on the booking level, there is a possibilty that appointments are not available right away. New appointments will become available regularly. Make sure you appear on time at the beginning of your appointment slot and allot some 15 minutes for necessary security checks. In case of a delay, you will automatically lose your slot and need to book a new appointment.
Please note that your application will usually be processed within one hour of your appointment time.

- If you were born after September 1, 1986 and are not in possession of a German birth certificate or a name certificate or

- if your last name has changed after marriage or divorce or

-if you are applying for a minor and do not have joint last name according to German law

 a name declaration will be necessary.

In case this applies to you, you need to book an appointment for "consular services" first and file a name declaration. Only after your new name has been registered and confirmed by the German registrar's office, you can book an appointment for a passport/ID card and file your application.

3. The necessary application forms, a list of the required documents and other useful information regarding your application can be found on our website.

4. It is not always reliably possible to obtain passport pictures in walking distance of the German Consulate General that fulfill the necessary requirements. The German Consulate General recommends to plan your visit accordingly in order not to miss your appointment.

5. Incomplete applications can NOT be processed. Please make sure that your application is ready to be filed before booking your appointment.

6. If you cannot make it to your appointment, please cancel it through the link provided in your confirmation email in order to make your appointment available to other applicants.

7. Please note that your appointment date format is DD/MM/YYYY.
