In some cases, it may be necessary to submit a name declaration before a name change or designation made abroad takes effect under German law. This is because even if a (new) name is listed on U.S. documents, this does not mean that the name change or designation is also valid in Germany. You will be advised on this matter during your appointment. For most children receiving their first German identification document, a declaration of name is no longer required, as the name can be taken directly from the U.S. birth certificate. Further information can be found here: https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/04-FamilyMatters/name/902854

You can take passport photos for $ 5 at a photo booth operated by a private provider in the Consulate General. The photo booth is not suitable for infants and small children under 4,3'.

Payments of up to EUR 1,000 shall be made by Visa and MasterCard. The payment is processed in EUR. (The photo booth is excluded from this). Please bring your credit card with you to the appointment.
