Welcome to the online appointment system of the German Consulate General in Los Angeles.
To apply for a German passport or ID-card, you need an appointment. Appointments can only be booked online. Please book one appointment per person.
Make sure you appear on time at the beginning of your appointment. If you fail to arrive on time, you will automatically lose your slot and need to book a new appointment.
Appointments can only be booked for 2 weeks in advance. New slots are made available daily (except on Fridays and Saturdays). If no appointments are available, this means that all slots are already fully booked. If you are not successful in obtaining an appointment right away, please try again later.

What you need to check before you book an appointment:
If your last name has changed after marriage or divorce, or if you apply for a German passport for a child for the first time, a name declaration might be necessary before the passport application.
Please read the link carefully before you book an appointment to make sure if you need a name declaration first or not. ONLY once the new name/the child's name has been registered and confirmed by the German registrar's office (Standesamt) you can book a passport appointment.

Schengen Visa (business, tourism, visit, airport transit)
All applications for Schengen visas (stay of up to 90 days) must be submitted through BLS International, our external service provider. Applications will no longer be accepted by the Consulate General in Los Angeles.

Residence Visa (for stays over 90 days)
Applications for most purposes of stay have to be submitted through the Consular Services Portal: https://digital.diplo.de/
Please check if your purpose of stay is already covered by the Consular Services Portal. When you apply in the correct category, our team will pre-check your application and will send you – if the application is complete – an individualized link to book your appointment for fingerprinting, presentation of original documents and payment of the visa fees
Only if your purpose of stay is not covered by the Consular Services Portal, you may book your appointment to submit your application in person through this platform. This concerns especially but not exclusively the following purposes of stay:
- ICT-Card
- Researcher
- Au-Pair
Appointments are only available two weeks in advance. Please be aware that appointments at the visa section are quickly fully booked.
