Visa - ビザ

Partial reopening of the visa section in OSAKA:

If your residence is in Western Japan, you can only apply for German visa at the German Consulate General in OSAKA. In this case you cannot apply for a German visa at the German Embassy in Tokyo.

Western Japan consists of the following prefectures: Aichi, Ehime, Fukui, Fukuoka, Gifu, Hiroshima,  Hyogo, Ishikawa, Kagawa, Kagoshima, Kochi, Kumamoto, Kyoto, Mie, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Nara, Oita, Okayama, Okinawa, Osaka, Saga, Shiga, Shimane, Tokushima, Tottori, Toyama, Wakayama, Yamaguchi.

If your residence is in Eastern Japan in a prefecture not mentioned above, please contact our collegues in Tokyo as they will be exclusively responsible for your visa application.

Germany has introduced a travel ban for all "non essential travels" from outside the Schengen area on March 17, 2020 that is currently still in effect.

For this reason the German Consulate General in Osaka is not accepting applications for German visa for the purpose of business travel, tourism, private visits or working holidays until further notice. Please refrain from telephone calls in this matter.

At the moment we only accept visa applications for the following purposes:

1)  travel for humanitarian emergencies (death or life threatening sickness of a close family member)

2)  studying in Germany

3)  family reunion (spouses or children of persons with legal residence in Germany)

4)  skilled workers

  • skilled workers with a contract  according to "Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz" (§§ 18 Abs. 3, 18a, 18b AufenthG)
  • guest scientists / researchers (§ 18d AufenthG)
  • staff exchange (§ 19 Abs. 1 i.V.m. § 10 BeschV)
  • ICT - limited to executives and specialists (§§ 19 Abs. 2, 19b AufenthG)
  • executives (§ 19c Abs. 1 i.V.m. § 3 BeschV)
  • IT-specialists (§19c Abs. 2 AufenthG iVm §6 BeschV)
  • employment in a particular public interest (§ 19c Abs. 3 AufenthG)

If you think that your visa application falls in one of the above mentioned categories, please send an e-mail to and enclose scanned pdf-documents on your case.

If we can confirm an exceptional case, we will offer you an appointment for your visa application by telephone or e-mail.
