Appointment for Visa / 签证预约


PLEASE NOTE:                                 You are required to wear a FFP2 (N95/KN95) mask in the Legal and Consular Section / Visa Section!

Due to the anti-Covid-measures taken out by the city of Shanghai, the visa section is significantly understaffed at the moment. Hence, only a limited number of appointments is available. If no appointments are shown in the particular category, all appointments have already been booked. In this case please try again later. Vacancies due to cancellations are released irregularly. Since we already provide the maximum capacity of appointments, no special / additional appointments are available.

Currently the visa section of the Consulate General in Shanghai only accepts applications in the below-mentioned categories:


1.national visas (visas for a stay of more than 90 days, “category D”):

  • family reunion (including getting married in Germany)
  • students with an admission letter of a German university and to entrance exams
  • Employment (incl. training)
  • Researcher 
  • visiting private boarding schools in Germany
  • self-employment


Please book an appointment in the respective category.



Due to mutual proviso, an application is currently not possible in China for:

  • language course without admission to a university
  • university applicants without admission to a university or entrance exam
  • job seeker 
  • Au Pair 
  • internship


2. Schengen Visas (visas for a stay of up to 90 days, “category C”):

  • Urgent travels for a duration of up to 90 days

德国长期签证(居留时间90 天以上的“D 签证):


  • 家庭团聚(包括结婚并婚后在德长期生活)
  • 持有德国高校近期开具的录取通知书的留学生和参加入学考试的学生

  • 赴德长期就读的中学生
  • 赴德就业(包括职业培训及专业厨师)
  • 个体经营者




  • 没有高校录取通知书的语言班学生
  • 没有高校录取通知书或入学考试邀请函的申请者
  • 求职人员
  • 互惠生
  • 实习生/见习生



申根签证(居留不超过90 “C 签证):

  • 居留不超过90 天的紧急旅行



Passport, German-ID and Change of Address in Passport/ID

If you would like to apply for a new passport, identity card or a change of residence, you can make an appointment here. Applications without prior appointment cannot be processed.

Please note that it currently can take up to 6 weeks to issue a passport without an express fee and around 2 - 3 weeks with an express fee.


Important: The appointment is only valid for one person. You can apply for a passport and/or ID card with one appointment. For multiple family members, separate appointments should be booked with the details of each individual applicant; in the case of minors with the data of the respective child.

All applicants for whom a passport is to be issued must appear in person. This also applies to minors and infants.


Appointments booked with obviously incorrect information are canceled by the consulate at regular intervals.


Please read the leaflet on our website thoroughly and bring all the required documents with you to the appointment, as incomplete applications will not be be accepted.


If a first passport is to be applied for a child born in China, a birth registration might be required. In this case, please do not book a passport appointment! Instead, book an appointment in the "Family Affairs" category.

Birth-, Marriage Registration, Acknowledgement of paternity and Divorce recognition

Would you like to register the birth of your child and apply for a German birth certifiacte?

You got married abroad and want to register your marriage in Germany to get a German marriage certificate?

Have you been divorced abroad and would like to have your divorce recognized? Take back the name you used before the marriage?

Would you like to recognize paternity for a child under German law?

In these cases it is imperative to contact us in advance. Please do not book an appointment until you have received a booking code from us.

Signature certifications / 签字公证

The Consulate General Shanghai can only certify signatures on documents that are linked to the German jurisdiction. Clients must have their habitual residence either in Shanghai, Anhui, Zhejiang or Jiangsu. Should you reside in another province, please refer to the competent German mission.

A certified signature may be required for:

  • Power of Attorney
  • Notarial approvals (“Genehmigungserklärung”, e.g. real estate deals, divorce agreements.)
  • Waiving an inheritance
  • Application for a certificate of no impediment to marriage
  • Any other declaration that may by law require a certified signature

PLEASE NOTE! You do not need to book an appointment to have your signature certified when applying for a certificate of good conduct (Führungszeugnis).

To certify your signature, the following documents have to be presented:

  • A valid passport (a Chinese ID Card cannot be accepted)
  • The document that has to be signed
  • In case the signee should not understand German, a written translation into Chinese (or English, if the signee’s English language skills are sufficient) is required

As of October 1st 2021 there is fixed fee for signature certifications: 56,43€. The fee is payable in RMB cash or through international credit cards (Master or Visa); the card will be debited in Euros.

Appointments that have been booked under false pretenses will regularly be deleted and blocked by the Consulate.
