- Each person may only register once for an appointment. Multiple registrations by the same person will be deleted immediately.

- The data of the person for whom a registration is made must match the data of the person who will attend the subsequent appointment.

- Accompanying persons for the visa appointment are only permitted in exceptional cases and must be named at the time of booking.

If you register with incorrect information (e.g. incorrect passport number and/or name spelling, etc.), you may not be admitted to the visa section on the day of the allocated appointment.

If you miss your appointment without an explanation, you will not be able to book an appointment for the next 12 weeks. Exceptions are not possible!

1)      For short stays of up to 90 days (“Schengen visa”)

Please be aware that there are two different appointment categories for short stay applications ("Schengen visa"). Please book your appointment accordingly in order to avoid possible cancellation of your booking:

- Category: "Schengen visa for tourism - short stay (up to 90 days)" → for tourism purposes only with main destination Austria or Germany.

- Category: "Schengen Visa - Short Stay (up to 90 days)" → Business Visa, Visiting Family/Friends, Transit, Medical Visa

A booking in the wrong category will result in cancellation of the appoinment!

2)      For long stay visas (“national visas”) of more than 90 days:

a)      Persons with the citizenship of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, The Republic of Korea, New Zealand, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in terms of sec. 1 para 2 no. 6 of the Freedom of Movement Law/ EU and the United States of America (USA) may enter the Federal Republic of Germany and reside there visa free even for stays exceeding 90 days. The necessary residence permit may be applied for within 90 days of entering Germany. Exceptions apply in case the person entering Germany intends to take up employment immediately after entering Germany or wishes to apply for an ICT card.

In particular if you are a Canadian or citizen of one of the countries mentioned above and intend to move to Germany for family reunion, it is encouraged to make use of the privilege to enter Germany visa free and to apply for your residence permit at your place of residence.  Please read as well our information regarding legalization of Canadian documents for use in Germany on our website.

For employment visas:

There are currently only a very limited number of available appointments to submit your paper application at the visa office. Please use the Consular Services portal instead to submit your application online. Please note: The Consular Services portal is not yet available for all visa categories.

You can upload your documents step by step to the Consular Services portal. You will then receive digital feedback from us as to whether your documents are complete. You can correct your documents as necessary if necessary. You will then receive a message to book an on-site appointment for applicants with an online application. A sufficient number of these appointments can be booked without long waiting times.

The appointment is quick and efficient: you show the requested original documents, provide your biometric data (fingerprints and photo) and pay the fee.

Please check in advance whether you need a visa to enter Germany/ the Schengen Area. It may also be possible to apply by post.

1)      For short stays of up to 90 days (“Schengen visa”)

If you can submit credible information that your fingerprints were taken during a previous application for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months, either at the visa section of a German mission or at the visa section of another Schengen State, you may be exempted from applying in person if your finger prints can be retrieved in the system. In this case, you may send in your application by post, if your intended travel purpose is NOT for a tourism.

Please take note that the visa section reserves the right to invite you to an interview at the visa section and also request additional information.

Please be aware of submitting your application on time considering that a submission of less than 15 days before the date of the planned trip results in rejection of your submission - this is a legal requirement under the Visa Code, which applicants must comply with!  Please also be aware of the additional delivery time by mail!
