On the following pages you can register to apply for a family reunification visa and marriage in Germany for stays of more than 90 days.

After successful registration you will receive two e-mails:

1. within 30 minutes: a registration email with your reference number and

2. approximately 4 weeks before the actual appointment: an appointment email with the date and time of your appointment.

Currently, the waiting time between registration and the final allocation of an appointment is over a year (as of November 2025)

Once you have registered, please check carefully whether you have received the registration email and whether the information you have provided is correct. If your details are incorrect, please cancel your registration by clicking on the cancellation link provided in the registration email. You can then carry out a new registration. It is not possible for the embassy to correct incorrect entries.

If an appointment is allocated on the basis of a registration with incorrect information (e.g. errors in the passport number and/or spelling of the name), it is possible that you will not be admitted to the visa section on the day of your appointment.

Please note the following when making a registration:

• All entries must be made in Latin characters only.
• All applicants, including minor children (under 18 years of age), require a separate registration
• Each person may only register once for an appointment. Multiple registrations by the same person will be deleted immediately.
• The data of the person for whom a registration is made must match the data of the person who will attend the subsequent appointment.

Important note for persons with Afghan nationality: Nationals of Afghanistan have to register themselves on the waiting list of the German embassy in Kabul. This also applies to applicants who habitually reside in Iran. As of now, persons who register on the waiting ist of the embassy in Kabul can only choose Islamabad as a location for the application. Registrations of Afghan nationals on this waiting list before June 19th, 2025 will remain valid. Applicants will be allocated appointments in chronological order together with applicants that are registered on the waiting list of the German embassy in Kabul. New registrations of Afghan nationales (beginning with November 2nd, 2025) will be deleted.  

Important note for family members of recognized refugees in Germany:

The registration to apply for a long-term visa for family reunion or marriage is not a timely notification in accordance with Section 29 (2) 1 of the Residence Act.

To benefit from a simplified visa process, the timely notification must be submitted by you or your family member in Germany within 3 months after recognition as a refugee. There are three options:

1. You can take the initial step of submitting a timely notification via www.fap.diplo.de. Follow the instructions and submit the timely notification document with your visa application.
2. Your family member in Germany can submit a timely notification at the competent Alien's Authority in Germany.
3. You or your lawyer can submit a timely notification by sending an E-Mail to the competent mission abroad. Please provide the following information:

• family name, given name, date of birth and passport number of the applicants
• purpose of your trip
• family name, given name, date of birth and residence permit of your family member in Germany

Important note in the case of minor children:

The registration on this waiting list cannot be regarded as an application in itself and has no legal validity regarding the age of minority in cases where the child is a minor at the moment of registration but has reached age of majority by the time an appointment can be alloted. To make sure that the child's application can be reagrded as the application of a minor child, even if the child has reached age of majority between registration of the appoinment and the appoinment itself, please proceed as follows:

1. Make sure to send an application for family reunion regarding the child before she/he has reached the age of majority. The application does not have to meed any form requirements, but it should be signed by bothe parents. Die application does not have to be sent as an originla. A scanned version will suffice. Makre sure to mention details as to the identity of the child (name, surname, date of birth) as well as the parent, with whom the child wishes to reunite. Also mention the basis for the applcation (f.ex. family reunion with mother/father).
2. Send this application via e-nail to visainfo@tehe.diplo.de
3. You will then receive confirmation of the receipt of the e-mail.
4. Make sure to keep both your application, yor e-mail and the e-mail of the embassy confirming your application.

Once the child has been alloted an appointment and called in for an interview, make sure to present your initial application and printouts of your e-mail and the e-mail from the embassy together with all other necessary documents at the embassy or the external service provider.
